Dr. Andrew Dobson, has been a practicing clinical therapist for over 15 years and brings real world experience to the Hypnotherapy sessions produced for Hypnotic MP3.
Like many Hypnotherapist's Andrew was initially trained and practised with an esoteric understanding and application of Hypnosis. In an effort to become a better therapist, he undertook pre & post grad studies in psychology at several Universities and soon realized the limits of this approach.
Andrew understands that Hypnotherapy is just one tool in the tool box of therapeutical applications and while a powerful tool - not a complete one. Andrew will only create Hypnosis sessions that have empirical evidence of it's effectiveness |

Andrew Dobson's History and Bio
Andrew grew up in the city of Napier, New Zealand, and like many New Zealanders, after High School decided to travel before committing to further education. Thinking that Law might be the career path for him, he obtained a position with the High Court with the hopes of gaining an insight into law. Soon afterwards Andrew decided that a career in law was not something that lived up in real life to the perception presented on television. Andrew did however find an increasing interest in Spirituality and a growing ability in Entrepreneurial skills. At the age of 20, Andrew tender and won the cleaning contract for the Justice Department buildings, formed a company, employed several friends as they attended University and a full-time night crew.
As a young man, and with seemly little effort Andrew was quickly generating an income in access of what he could have hoped for with a career within the Justice Department or a Law firm. With encouragement of friends claiming he would be a Millionaire by the time he was 25, Andrew would work a couple of hours at night, and spend his days as a full time student gaining qualifications in various topics that caught his interest and imagination at the time.
With a growing dis-interest in the material aspects of life, and an increasing interest in new age spirituality, Andrew divided and gave away his business among the employees, boarded a plane and set off on what he hoped would be a self discovery adventure through Australia, Singapore, England and Europe. During the next few years (the hippy period) Andrew developed an interest and skill set in alternative healing. During his last few months of the overseas experience in Glastonbury, England he was introduced to Hypnosis. Upon returning to New Zealand, Andrew enrolled in a Hypnotherapy School.
During his hypnotherapy training, Andrew witnessed, a stroke patient gain control of the paralysis on the left side of her body after 6 months of unsuccessful physiotherapy. So began his serious study of the subject. Andrew found that as a lay hypnotist the results with clients were outstanding, and could not understand the 'raised eyebrows' among Psychologists when discussing the subject. On more than one occasion we was told (described here more politely) he possessed a 'limited understanding of current and common knowledge of how the brain worked' to say the least. So began a 6 year study and qualifications in Psychology at University.
Andrew is presented with his Hypnotherapy Qualifications in 1992 by Ormond McGill

Within the first few weeks of his first year studying psychology at University, Andrew became aware of exactly what the psychologists meant. To his dismay discovering that almost all of the descriptions and explanations he had been taught to describe how hypnosis works to a client were nothing close to what psychology knew. Worse still, many of the explanations such as 'the subconscious records everything perfectly like a video recorder' and 'we only use 10% of our brain' were not only totally wrong - the reality of how they worked had been known as early as 1932.
Over the duration of his University pre and post grad studies into Psychology, Andrew's approach to therapy began to move away from a new age and spiritual modality into a more research and clinical model. Now Dr Dobson uses as a basis to any therapy documented studies and research that have been shown to demonstrate results. After all if you wanted to build your own electric car, you would use plans designed around expertise and previous results ... rather than put a solar panel on the roof and ask for the sun pixies to make the car work.. For an article about some of the myths of hypnosis when taught as a new age therapy ;
For several years Andrew threw himself into a private therapy practise, and further education in Sports psychology and physiology. Andrew has worked in New Zealand conducting seminars for both Government and business employees, as well as private practice. He spent several years in the United States, furthering his abilities and training as well as providing private practise.
The Four Hour Work Week

Over several years Andrew grew disillusioned with the normal work paradigm. He was living the old concept, going to school, then finding a job, buying a house and raising a family (although he did not have a wife or child). The idea of working for 40 years to obtain all these things and hoping that you can also save enough money to retire and then do all the things you have wanted to do your whole life did not really appeal. Therapy had taught him, it is not really the material things people desire, it is 'The way those things make you feel'. Andrew's personal motto became "Live the life others only sing songs about", and he started to travel and experience the world
It took another 15 years before the world and technology caught up with this idea which is now referred to as "Independent Business & Lifestyle Design' The idea is, work for a period of time, then have a mini retirement and holiday for a period of time. (This concept is made famous in the book 'The Four Hour Work Week' by Tim Ferris. And this is now the Lifestyle Dr. Dobson lives.
Andrew has found that living this lifestyle requires much less financial income than the way most people live theirs. And this is why he can offer his product at less than other therapists. A situation regular customer and himself are quite happy about.
